Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham softball squad used the long ball to help catapult the Rams to a 4-1 Atlantic 10 win over Saint Louis on Friday, April 13, from Bahoshy Field in the Bronx. Nicole Callahan and Elise Fortier each homered in the victory that raised the Rams' Atlantic 10 record to 10-1. Jen Mineau went the distance in the circle to earn her twentieth win.

Fordham took the lead in the second inning by manufacturing a run as Chelsea Palumbo singled through the left side with one out. Elise Fortier followed with a base hit and Gabby Luety walked to load the bases. A Michele Daubman sacrifice fly to center field scored Palumbo to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.

The Rams doubled their lead an inning later as Nicole Callahan drilled a ball to right that kept carrying and just cleared the wall for a solo home run, her third on the season.

Mineau was cruising from the start for Fordham as she retired the first eleven batters of the game, including striking out the side in the second. The only hit she allowed came in the fourth inning, when the Billikens' Laura Bohning put her offering over the scoreboard for a solo homer. Fordham got a pair of insurance runs in the fifth on a home run by Fortier. Paige Ortiz led off with a walk and Brianna Ciuffi came in to run for her. Three batters later, Fortier deposited a pitch into the tennis courts for a two-run home run, her second of the year.

Mineau improved to 20-9 with the victory. She gave up the one hit, walked two and struck out ten. Fortier had two hits and two RBI in the win.

The game was fifth out of the last six that Fordham hit a home run and the third game in the last four where the Rams connected on multiple home runs.

With the win, the Rams are now 26-17 overall, 10-1 in the A-10, while Saint Louis falls to 17-22, and 4-5 in conference games. The rubber game of the series is slated for Saturday, April 14 from Bahoshy Field. The first pitch is slated for noon.
