Bronx, N.Y. - It was an historic day in the Bronx on Tuesday, March 20, as the weather was unseasonably warm, former Fordham softball player Lisa Barczak-Smith threw out the ceremonial first pitch as the team christened the newly renovated Bahoshy Field, and for the fait accompli, Jen Mineau hurled her eighth career no-hitter in an 8-0 win over St. John's. Offensively, the Rams clobbered four home runs in the win.

Mineau was dominant from the outset as she retired the first seven Red Storm batters before allowing a one-out walk to Erin Burner in the third. Mineau then plunked Julia Sanchez with a pitch and St. John's had two runners on with just one out. Mineau worked her way out of the jam by striking out both Ellen Czuba and Dominique Marcelino to retire the side in the third.

The Rams offense fared far better than their counterparts over the first three innings, scoring six runs in that span, beginning with two in the first on a single to center by Nicole Callahan which was followed by a two-run home run by Paige Ortiz, her team-leading fifth of the year.

Fordham added another run in the bottom of the second as Gabby Luety hit a shot onto the tennis courts in left-center field to make the score 3-0. In the third, Michele Daubman, the reigning Atlantic Rookie of the Week, laced a double over the centerfielder's head and, one out later, Chelsea Palumbo walked. Both runners came in on Luety's second round tripper of the day, and her fourth of the year, that gave the Rams a 6-0 advantage.

The St. John's half of the fourth saw the red Storm go in order as all batters flew out to Lindsey Kay Bright in left field. In the bottom of the frame, the Rams extend their lead even further, as Jamie LaBovick led off with a solo home run off of the scoreboard, her second of the year, making the score 7-0.

Mineau took her no-hitter into the fifth and got a huge assist from the glove work of third baseman Elise Fortier. With two outs and the bases empty, Burner ripped a hard grounder down the line and Fortier went to the backhand side to take the ball on the short hop and tossed is across the diamond for the third out, robbing Burner of a double on the play.

The Rams closed the game out in the sixth as Bright led off with a single up the middle. She advanced to second on a groundout and scored the eighth run on a Callahan line-drive single down the right-field line.

For Mineau, it was her eighth career no-hitter and her first since she tossed a perfect game against St. Peter's on April 27, 2011. The only base runners Mineau allowed came on the walk and hit batsman in the third. She struck out nine and improved to 10-8 with the win. Palumbo, Luety, Callahan and LaBovick each had two hits apiece for Fordham.

The Rams improve to 12-14 on the year and begin A-10 games on Friday, March 23, when they open up a pair of weekend series at La Salle and George Washington.
