Stony Brook's Cole Peragine knocked out four hits and drove in three runs, while Matt Gallup threw three hitless innings, as the Seawolves upended the Fordham Rams, 11-2, at Houlihan Park on Tuesday.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-13 on the season, while Stony Brook improves to 12-6.
Stony Brook opened the scoring with two runs in the second, as Pat Cantwell doubled with one out and moved to third on a single by Steven Goldstein. After a stolen base by Goldstein, Kevin Courtney plated Cantwell with a single to left, while Goldstein scored on Travis Jankowski's fielder's choice.
The Seawolves tacked on four more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single by Kevin Krause.
Fordham scored its opening run in the bottom of the fourth, as Stephen McSherry doubled to short right center field, moved to third on Ryan Maghini's infield single, and scored on a single by Ryan Lee.
Stony Brook though got the momentum back, scoring four times in the sixth and once in the seventh for an 11-1 lead.
The Rams closed out the scoring in the bottom of the seventh, when Ryan Phelan reached third base on an error, and scored on a ground out by Joseph Conway.
Starter Jonathan Reich (0-2) took the loss, pitching the opening three innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Dan Sorine gave up two earned runs on three hits in his lone inning, while Ryan Fedak allowed four runs over two innings of work. Jordan Gajdos made his debut as a Ram, allowing one run in one inning of work with McSherry making his first career pitching appearance. McSherry ended up tossing two scoreless innings and struck out three.
At the plate, Fordham managed only four hits. McSherry and Brendan Maghini each had a double in the game with Lee and Ryan Maghini each having a single.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, March 21st, when the Rams host Marist College, beginning at 3:30 PM.
