Baseball Shut Out In Series Finale With Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C. - Campbell starting pitcher Paul Eyster threw seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, while Jake Kirkland drove in three runs and scored three times, as the Camels shut out the Fordham Rams, 9-0, at Taylor Field in the rubber game of a three-game series.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 1-5, while Campbell improved to 5-2.

Campbell cracked the scoreboard in the first with a pair of runs on a two-run single by Michael Felton.

The Camels made it 3-0 in the second, as Nick Ray opened with a triple down the right field line, and scored on a Cam'Ron Summers fielder's choice.

Campbell doubled its lead to 6-0 in the fifth, as the Camels loaded the bases and got two fielder's choices to score a pair of runs, as well as an RBI-single by Blake Boyce.

Campbell closed out the scoring with three more runs in the eighth on a three-run home run by Kirkland.

Fordham could not get the offense rolling, as the Rams mustered four hits in the game. The team's best scoring chance was in the fourth with runners at first and second with one out. However, Esyter struck out the final two batters of the inning to end the threat.

For Fordham, Rob McCunney was 1-for-3 with a double, while Ryan Lee, Tim Swatek, and Zach Small each a hit. On the hill, John Porter (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jeremy Adel pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts, while Ryan Fedak pitched the final inning.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, February 29th, when the Rams host Fairleigh Dickinson for their home opener at Houlihan Park, beginning at 3:00 PM.
