BRONX, N.Y. - After a tough week on the road, the Rams returned to the Rose Hill Gym on Saturday looking to pick up a win against Stony Brook. Unfortunately for Coach Gaitley's squad, the Seawolves (5-3) shot 50 percent from the field en route to a 58-46 victory.

The Rams had trouble from the field to open up the game, missing on their first seven attempts before an Erin Rooney jumper put Fordham (5-4) ahead 8-6 with 12:58 left in the half. Luckily for the Rams, they effectively worked the ball inside, getting to the line as many times in the first seven minutes of the game as they did in the first 38 minutes of the loss at Yale. Samantha Clark sank four free throws on four tries and Rooney added a pair over that stretch.

The two teams traded buckets over the next seven minutes, with the contest featuring seven ties and nine lead changes up until that point. But a 9-0 run by the Seawolves over the span of two and a half minutes broke the action open and put Stony Brook ahead 25-18 with 3:31 to go until the break. Stony Brook extended the lead to eight, and entered the intermission with a 28-20 advantage.

Clark, making her third start of the year, had the best half of her young career. The Neptune, N.J. native netted ten points on 3-6 shooting and shot a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe.

Erin Rooney added 11 points for the Rams.

While the Rams couldn't seem to find the bottom of the bucket in the beginning of the first half, Fordham had no trouble sinking shots to begin the latter stanza.

The Rams narrowed the lead to four at 30-26 after five quick points from Marah Strickland, but Stony Brook responded, opening the lead back up to eight after layups from Brittany Snow and Gerda Gatling.

But the Rams fired back, and a Rooney three-pointer narrowed the deficit to five, 34-29. Two free throws from Strickland chipped the Stony Brook lead to three with 15:26 on the clock, but the Seawolves then responded with 15 unanswered, holding Fordham scoreless over the next seven plus minutes.

The Rams never quit, using an 11-1 run to narrow the deficit to eight with two and half minutes left to play, but the lead proved insurmountable.

Three Rams finished the day in double-figure scoring, as Strickland netted a team-high 13, Clark finished with a career-high 12, and Rooney added 11. Rooney's 11 points marked the ninth time in nine tries that the New Zealand native finished the game in double figures.

The Rams will return to action on Monday night in the Rose Hill Gym, playing host to the Southern University Jaguars. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
