Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University men's soccer team found itself in strange a strange situation today, trailing the University of Richmond 3-1 in the second half, the first time all season that the Rams trailed in a game by two goals. Fordham managed to score once to cut the deficit but that was as close as they would get as the Spiders pulled out a 3-2 Atlantic 10 win on Jack Coffey Field.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-5-3 overall on the year, 1-2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improves to 6-9 overall, 2-4 in the conference.

The Spiders controlled play in the first half, outshooting the Rams 8-1 in the period, but neither team could find the back of the net over the first 45 minutes.

Fordham scored the game's first goal in the first minute of the second half when Ollie Kelly took a pass from Andre Seidenthal and got off a blast from seven yards out that beat Richmond keeper Thomas Hand to the upper left corner. It was Kelly's first goal of the year.

The Rams held the 1-0 lead until the 65th minute when Michael Forsyth sent a free kick into the box and Nick Butler was able to get a head on the ball and direct it past Fordham keeper Sean Brailey for his first tally of the year.

The game remained tied for the next seven minutes until Mark Rankin took a throw in and played the ball to Timmy Albright. Albright lofted a pass to Christopher Hill who headed it just over Brailey for his second goal of the year to give the Spiders a 2-1 lead.

With the Rams pressing to find the equalizer, Richmond struck again in the 80th minute when Mitch Reavis sent in Oliver Murphy for a breakaway and Murphy beat Brailey with a blast to the upper left corner.

Fordham pulled to within one, 3-2, on unassisted tally from Taylor Gulbins, his first goal of the year, as Gulbins collected a rebound off the crossbar and headed it by Hand.

The Rams had a pair of opportunities to tie the game in the final minutes but a Ryan Walsh shot with just over two minutes left was blocked and a Michael Stalker volley went over the net with 1:20 remaining.

Brailey finished with four saves in net for the Rams while Hand made two saves for the Spiders, who outshot Fordham 19-7 on the day.

The Rams return to action on Friday night, October 26th, as they host the Temple University Owls in an Atlantic 10 match on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 p.m.
