Final Stats

Washington, D.C. - After scoring one goal in the last four games, the Fordham University men's soccer team "exploded" today for two goals, both coming in the second half, as the Rams defeated George Washington University, 2-1, in an Atlantic 10 match in Washington, D.C.

With the win, Fordham improves to 5-4-2 overall, 1-1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington falls to 4-8-0 overall, 1-3-0 in the conference.

Kyle Bitterman proved to be the difference, scoring his second goal of the year, and his second game-winner, in the 89th minute to break a 1-1 tie.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams struck first when Tommy Granot took a free kick in the 58th minute and directed it to Julian Nagel, who headed the ball past George Washington keeper Luke Farrell for his first goal of the year.

The Fordham lead didn't hold up for long as the Colonials got the equalizer less than a minute later. Tyler Ranalli took a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced back to Dominic Gallelli, who got a head on the ball but it was saved by a Fordham defender. Philip McQuitty jumped on the rebound but his shot was saved by a diving Fordham keeper, Sean Brailey. However, Seth Rudolph corralled that rebound and tapped it inside the left post before Brailey could recover.

Kalle Sotka almost gave the Rams the led in the 79th minute when Sotka got off a header but Farrell was able to keep it out of the net, his second save of a Sotka header in the half.

The score remained 1-1 until the 89th minute when Sotka took a corner kick and directed toward the George Washington goal where Bitterman got off a shot that beat Farrell to put the Rams up 2-1.

Brailey made three save in net for the Rams, who outshot George Washington 16-9, while Farrell recorded five for the Colonials.

The Rams are next in action on Friday night, October 19th, as they host the VCU Rams in an Atlantic 10 matchup at 5:00 p.m. on Jack Coffey Field in the first game of a soccer doubleheader as the Fordham women take on La Salle at 7:30 pm.
