Volleyball Falls to 18th-Ranked Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - Standing at 4-1 in the Atlantic 10, the Fordham volleyball team faced a stern test on Friday, as the Rams faced off against the top team in the conference, the 18th-ranked Dayton Flyers, at the Frericks Center in Dayton, Ohio. The Flyers would put together a strong effort, hitting .411 as a team, as Dayton swept the Rams in three sets, snapping the Rams' three-match win streak. Final set scores were 25-19, 25-11, and 25-19.

With the loss, Fordham moves to 12-13 on the season, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton improved to 14-4 on the year, 6-0 in the league.

The first set saw a tight score with Fordham trailing by one on multiple occasions, the last at 18-17. The Flyers though finished strong, scoring seven of the final nine points to win the set.

The second set was all Dayton, as the Flyers hit .484 as a team, committing only one error, en route to a 14-point set win.

Set three saw the Flyers take the lead from the outset, as Dayton hit better than .450 to win the match in three sets. Fordham was able to put some things together in that final set, as the Rams hit .423 with just two errors.

For Fordham, Lisa Hipp led the way with 11 kills and six digs, while Randi Ewing and Brianna O'Neil each had eight kills. Sara Konkel finished with 26 assists and six digs with Maria Rodenberg adding 10 digs defensively.

The Fordham volleyball team is back in action on Saturday, October 13th, as the Rams face the Xavier Musketeers at 7:00 PM in Cincinnati, Ohio.
