Final Stats

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham women's basketball team entered Wednesday's home contest against Charlotte with a 5-4 mark in games at the Rose Hill Gym this season. But it was the 49ers who seemed at home in the game as they defeated the Rams, 61-41, dropping the Rams to 10-11 overall, 1-5 in the Atlantic 10.

Both teams came out cold as it took over two minutes of game time before either side made a basket. It was Charlotte who struck first on a Jennifer Hailey jumper at 17:51 before Fordham tied the score less than two minutes later when Stoddart cut to the basket and made a layup off an assist from Arielle Collins.

From there, the 49ers used a 12-3 run to build a nine-point advantage, 14-5, when Epiphany Woodson sank a pair of free throws at 9:33. The Rams countered that run quickly as Collins and Stoddart scored on consecutive possessions to bring Fordham back to within four, 14-10, at 7:45.

The Rams stayed close over the next three minutes but Charlotte closed out the final four-and-half minutes with a 10-3 run to take a 28-17 lead into halftime. The Rams' lone points in that stretch came from an Abigail Corning three-pointer.

The second half began in earnest for Fordham as a three-pointers from Corning and Christina Gaskin cut the Charlotte lead to five, 28-23, with 17:45 remaining. Charlotte countered with ten straight points over the next 3:56 to stretch the lead to 38-23. Fordham ended the 49ers run with a Stoddart jumper.

The Rams got as close at ten points when Emily Tapio converted a Charlotte turnover into a jumper that made the score 40-30 with 11:24 remaining. But the 49ers pushed the lead to as many as 25 and ended up winning by the 61-41 score.

Charlotte Stoddart led the Rams with 10 points while Arielle Collins scored seven points.

Fordham returns to action on Saturday, January 28, as the team travels to Amherst, Massachusetts, to face UMass in an Atlantic 10 game at 5:00 PM. The Rams return home on Wednesday, February 1, to host La Salle at 7:00 PM.
