On a day that saw the metropolitan area suffer through a snowstorm, the Rams suffered through their own cold day in the Rose Hill Gym as they fell to the Dayton Flyers, 62-37, in an Atlantic 10 game on Saturday afternoon.
The Flyers jumped out to a 10-2 lead over the first five minutes of play until Fordham's Abigail Corning connected on the team's first field goal, a jumper at 14:28, to make the score 10-4 for Dayton.
An 8-4 run by Dayton over the next 6:29, pushed the Flyers' lead to 18-8 and forced the Rams to use a timeout.
Out of the break, Fordham got hot and, using an 8-0 run to pull to within two. 18-16. The scoring spree was keyed by a three-pointer from Christina Gaskin, another trifecta from Collins, and a layup from Gaskin, as the Rams got to 18-16 at the 4:04 mark.
Dayton answered the Fordham run by scoring the next 12 points to close out the half with a 30-16 advantage. The 16 points was the fewest the Rams scored in a half since the Bucknell game.
The second half saw Dayton extend its lead to as many as 27 points. The Rams played hard the rest of the way but fell to the Flyers 62-37.
Arielle Collins led the Rams with 10 points while Gaskin chipped in with eight points, shooting 40% from the three-point line.
With the loss, Fordham is now 10-10 overall, and 1-4 in the A-10. Dayton improved to 12-5 and 4-1.
Fordham returns to action on Wednesday, January 25, when they welcome the Charlotte 49ers into the Rose Hill Gym for a 7:00 PM game.
