11th Annual Rose Hill Classic Opens With Wins By Siena and Albany

Bronx, N.Y. - The 11th Annual Rose Hill Classic began on Friday with the first two of eight matches this weekend. In the opener, Siena took home a five-set victory over Colorado, while Albany swept a three-set match from host Fordham.

The victories put Siena at 2-3 and Albany at 1-6 on the year, while Colorado fell to 3-2 and Fordham to 1-4.

Siena 3, Colorado 2

The opening match of the Rose Hill Classic turned into an exciting five-set affair between Siena and Colorado. In the end, led by a match-high 21 kills from Siena's Taylor Akana, the Saints pulled out the five-set victory over the Buffaloes. Final set scores were 24-26, 25-15, 25-23, 17-25, and 15-13.

Colorado led the fifth set, 13-12, but Siena was able to sneak out the final three-points of the match, two of which came on kills by Akana, to get the victory.

Akana finished with a double-double at 21 kills and 14 digs for Siena, while Colleen Ahearn posted 18 kills. Setter Elizabeth Ives just missed a double-double with 46 assists, nine digs, and four service aces. For the match, Siena ended up with 15 services aces, led by Sarah Sivertson with seven.

For Colorado, Kerra Schroeder led the way with 19 kills, 11 digs, and three service aces, while Nikki Lindow had 10 kills and eight blocks.

Match 2
Albany 3, Fordham 0

Box Score

In the second match of the tournament, Albany finished with three hitters in double-figures for kills, while Brooke Stanley had 37 assists, as the Great Danes swept a three-set match from Fordham. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, and 25-11.

Albany built up comfortable leads in each of the three sets, resulting from a .292 hitting percentage. The Rams were unable to get any momentum going, posting a .116 hitting percentage, while managing only two team blocks.

For Albany, Dunja Prgomet was the top hitter with 13 kills, nine digs, and a .417 hitting percentage, while Casey Wright and Sara Pope each added 11 kills. Stanley also added five kills, two aces, and four digs to her 37 assists on the night.

For Fordham, Brittany Daulton was the Rams' top hitter with nine kills and five digs with Lisa Hipp adding six kills and seven digs. Chelsea Moore recorded 12 digs as the starting libero with Maria Rodenberg having a team-high 13 assists. Mary Diamantidis also shared the setting duties with 12 assists and six digs.
