Water Polo Splits Pair of Matches at Navy Navy Labor Day Open

Annapolis, Md. - The Fordham University water polo squad wrapped up play at the at the Navy Labor Day Open in Annapolis, Maryland, with a 13-3 win over Penn State Behrend and an 11-10 overtime loss to George Washington.

In the Penn State Behrend win, the Rams led 5-0 after the first quarter and 7-1 at the half. The Rams increased the lead to 12-1 after three periods before going on to the 13-3 win. Jake Bakas and Eric Minowitz each scored four times for Fordham with Minowitz adding three steals. J.D. Shrewsbury, Nicholas Allen, Alex Judge, Andrew McKernin and Daniel Barron also scored for the Rams, with Allen adding three assists, while Ben Clinkinbeard and Robert Fleming each recorded a pair of assists.

In goal, Christian Flessner played the first half, recording eight saves while Noah LeBeau had four saves, two assists and one steal in the second half.

In the George Washington match, the Rams trailed 6-2 but managed to come back and tie the game at eight to send it into overtime. In overtime, a Clinkinbeard tally put the Rams up 10-9 but the Colonials evened things in the second overtime, forcing a sudden death period where George Washington scored to defeat the Rams, 11-10.

Clinkinbeard led the Fordham offense with three goals and two assists while Josh Itano scored two goals and added two helpers and Bakes found the back of the net twice. Allen, Barron and Minowitz accounted for the other Fordham goals with Barron adding two assists and Minowitz two steals.

In goal, Flessner played the first half, allowing four goals while recording seven saves while LeBeau played the second half and the overtime periods, allowing seven goal and making nine saves.

With the split, the Rams are now 2-2 on the year. They will next be in action on Saturday, September 10th, as they open play at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. with a match against the host school at 10:15 a.m. followed by a game with
