Volleyball Picks Up First Conference Win With Sweep of La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Fordham volleyball team got exactly what the doctor ordered in their second conference match on Friday night at La Salle: three consistent sets on offense and a 3-0 victory over the Explorers at Tom Gola Arena. The Rams finished with four players hitting better than .353 in the match, as the team earned its first Atlantic 10 victory of the season.

With the win, Fordham improves to 4-11 overall, 1-1 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle falls to 4-16 overall, 0-3 in the conference.

The first set belonged to Fordham, piling up four blocks and a .333 team hitting percentage, while individually Randi Ewing accounted for six points on four kills and two blocks.

Set two was tied at 13 all before Fordham closed the set with a 12-3 run. The Rams hit .458 as a team with only two errors, led by Carina Thompson's five kills and two blocks.

Set three was all Fordham, leading by as many as 12 points to close out the match. Defensively, Fordham held La Salle to a -.133 hitting percentage in the set, and overall, posted 11 team blocks and held the Explorers to a -.030 hitting percentage.

Individually for Fordham, Thompson posted a career-high 10 kills and .471 hitting percentage to go with four blocks, while Randi Ewing posted seven kills, six blocks, and a .778 hitting percentage. Lisa Hipp registered eight kills and five digs with Krissy Buongiorno adding five kills and four blocks. Mary Diamantidis and Sara Konkel dished out 18 and 15 assists, respectively, with Megan Arend having a match-high 11 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 1st, when the Rams play at Temple University, beginning at 7:00 PM.
