The Fordham volleyball team wrapped up play at the Brown Invitational on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches at the Pizzitola Center. The Rams opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Bryant, but rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Rams are now 3-8 on the season.
In the opening match of the day, the Rams were their own worst enemy, committing 28 attack errors, as the Bryant Bulldogs earned a 3-0 match win. Final set scores were 25-14, 25-22, and 25-20.
Fordham hit just .038 in the match, compared to the Bulldogs, who finished at .301 with only 10 attack errors, seven of which were Fordham blocks.
Bryant's Jazmin Stoner was the team's top hitter with nine kills, five digs, and a .318 hitting percentage, while Kendall Gaffney had six kills and eight digs.
For Fordham, Brittany Daulton had a match-high 12 kills to go with four digs, and two blocks, while Krissy Buongiorno had four kills and four blocks. Sara Konkel dished out 17 assists and five digs with Megan Arend totaling a match-high 13 digs.
In the Rams' final match, the Rams got a career-best performance from Kim Capicotto, while Daulton recorded her fourth double-double of the season, as Fordham defeated Maryland-Eastern Shore in four sets. Final set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 28-26, and 25-21.
After splitting the first two sets, the Rams and Hawks played an extremely tight third set. The score was tied at 26 all before Fordham got back-to-back kills from Konkel and Buongiorno to seal the set win.
Set four belonged to Fordham's Capicotto, who had six of her nine kills, in the fourth set, including the final one on match point. Capicotto tied her career-high with nine kills, while hitting .750 for the match.
Besides Capicotto, Daulton, who was named to the All-Tournament team, had a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs, while Lisa Hipp filled up the stat line with 10 kills, seven digs, a career-high five assists, and three blocks. Randi Ewing added eight kills and three blocks with Buongiorno and Lindsay Ritchie each having seven kills. Konkel had a season-high 29 assists to go with six digs with Mary Diamantidis having 17 assists and six digs.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 21st, when the team travels to Stony Brook for a 7:00 PM match.
