Water Polo Drops Final Two Matches of the Princeton Invitational

Sept. 11, 2011

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham water polo team wrapped up play at the 2011 Princeton Invitational on Sunday with a pair of losses to Harvard and Santa Clara, putting the team's record at 2-6 on the season.

In the early game, the Rams played the Crimson tight through three quarters with the score knotted at five all. However, Harvard scred three times in the fourth, including two from Max Eliot to seal an 8-6 win.

For Fordham, Ben Clinkinbeard and J.D. Shrewsbury each had two goals and an assist with Daniel Barron and Robert Fleming having the final two tallies. Clinkinbeard also had a pair of blocks in the contest with Jake Bakas adding two assists.

In net, Christian Flessner and Noah LeBeau split the goalkeeper duties with each making five saves in two quarters of work.

In match two, Fleming's career-high five-goal performance was not enough as the Rams were handed a 13-8 loss to #14 Santa Clara.

The Rams kept it close, trailing by one, 7-6 at halftime, behind three tallies from Fleming. Fleming added two more goals in the second half, but they were the only markers for Fordham compared to six by the Broncos.

Besides Fleming, Eric Minowitz had two goals and a steal, with Shrewsbury netting the final goal for the Rams.

Flessner played the entire match in goal for Fordham, totaling 13 saves and a steal.

The Fordham water polo team will next be in action September 16-18 at the CWPA North vs. South Tournament, which will be held at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
