11th Annual Rose Hill Classic Comes to a Close

Bronx, N.Y. - The 11th Annual Rose Hill Classic came to a close on Sunday with the final two matches at the Rose Hill Gym, as Colorado rallied for a five-set victory over St. John's, while the Fordham Rams gave the Red Storm all they could handle in a four-set loss.

The victories place Colorado at 5-3, St. John's at 7-5, and Fordham at 2-6.

The opening match on Sunday saw a highly contested match-up between Colorado and St. John's. St. John's opened to a 2-0 set lead, but the Buffaloes stormed back to win the final three sets to win their second match of the Rose Hill Classic. Final set scores were 22-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, and 15-13.

The biggest difference in the game was Colorado blocking, as the Buffaloes set a Rose Hill Classic tournament record 19 team blocks to St. John's 10.5.

Colorado's Kerra Schroeder made the biggest impact individually, posting 26 kills and 16 digs in the win. The 26 kills were the second most in the tournament's 11-year history. Anicia Santos had 12 blocks to go with five kills with Nikki Lindow finishing with 13 kills and seven blocks.

For St. John's, Darlene Ramdin posted a team-high 21 kills and four blocks while Brunna Kronbauer had 17 kills and 12 digs.

In the final match of the Rose Hill Classic, the Fordham Rams gave the Red Storm all they could handle, but in the end, the duo of Brunna Kronbauer and Darlene Ramdin would lead St. John's to a four-set win. Final set scores were 25-22, 20-25, 25-13, and 25-20.

The Rams put together one of their best matches of the tournament, posting nine team blocks with three players in double figure kills, led by Brittany Daulton and Lisa Hipp with 11 kills each. Rose Diaz-Vazquez, who was named to the All-Tournament team, also had 10 kills. Krissy Buongiorno also added six kills and five blocks with Chelsea Moore having 16 digs, and five assists.

For St. John's, Kronbauer posted a match-high 16 kills with Ramdin having 15 kills and four blocks.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, September 16th, when the Rams take on Brown at 7:00 Pm in the opening match of the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island.
