Box Score
Amherst, Mass. -
Due to rain, the Fordham-Massachusetts baseball game has been unable to continue up in Amherst, Massachusetts. The umpires suspended the game yesterday in the bottom of the seventh inning, after Massachusetts had tied the game at two, thus the game has been declared a tie.
Through six innings, Massachusetts led 1-0 before Fordham scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead.
The rain then began to fall heavily, but not enough to stop the game. Massachusetts loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, and scored the tying run on a wild pitch, which would be the last pitch thrown before the umpires stopped the game.
By NCAA rule, because Massachusetts had batted and scored in the inning to tie the game, the game is declared a tie. If Massachusetts had not scored on that wild pitch and the game were halted before it happened, the game would have reverted back to the sixth inning, which would have made Massachusetts the winner.
Thus with the tie, Fordham is now 30-20-1, 11-9-1 in the Atlantic 10.
The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday, May 17th, when they have their final non-league contest at Seton Hall, beginning at 3:30 PM.
