Old Westbury, N.Y. - Following a disappointing weekend that saw Fordham drop both ends a doubleheader on Sunday, the Rams' offense came alive early and often on Wednesday at New York Tech. Fordham exploded for a nine-run first inning, which included a grand slam home run by Ryan David, and never looked back in a 12-7 win over the Bears at President's Field.

With the win, Fordham improves to 17-11 overall, and sweeps the season series with New York Tech. The Bears fell to 4-15.

The first inning was full of fireworks for the Rams, as Fordham sent 12 men to the plate, scoring nine runs on seven hits. The game began with back-to-back singles by Nick Martinez and Ryan David. After a balk advanced the runners, Ryan Lee drove a two-run single to center, scoring both runners. Chris Walker then drew a walk to put two runners on for Joe Russo. Russo belted a three-run home run to right, his second of the season, to give the Rams a 5-0 lead.

The offense continued to roll later in the inning, as the Rams loaded the bases on singles by Tim Swatek and Ryan Maghini, while Chris Kimmeth was hit by a pitch. Ryan David then drilled his first career grand slam home run to right for a 9-0 lead. It was David's first home run of the year.

New York Tech tried to get back in the contest, scoring four runs in the third, pulling within five, but Fordham got a run back in the fifth to make it a 10-4 score. Walker singled up the middle, was sacrificed to second, and eventually scored on an RBI-single by Tim Swatek. The hit by Walker extended his hit streak to nine games.

Brian Thompson posted his frist career win on Wednesday.

After a two-run double by Sebastian Grazziani made it 10-6 in the bottom of the fifth, Fordham increased its lead to 12-6 with single runs in the seventh and ninth innings. In the seventh, Maghini hit a solo home run to right, his team-leading fourth of the season, while in the ninth, David drew a walk, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on an error.

The scoring was capped by New York Tech in the ninth for a 12-7 final score, as Effrey Valdez hit a solo home run.

On the hill, Fordham's Brian Thompson (1-0) got his first career win in relief, allowing only two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in a career-high three innings of work. Jonathan Reich (1 IP, 1 H) and Martinez (1 IP, 1 R) closed out the win for Thompson, holding the Bears to one run over the final two innings. Daniel Munday got the start for the Rams, allowing three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. He was relieved by Dan Sorine, who threw 1.1 innings of one-hit relief.

At the plate, David set or tied his career-highs with three hits, three runs scored, and four RBI, while Maghini also had three hits and two runs scored. Russo was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI with Swatek also having two hits and an RBI.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, April 8th, when the Rams open a three-game Atlantic 10 series against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at Houlihan Park, beginning at 4:00 PM.
