Bronx, N.Y. - Samantha Pellechio was dubbed "the Hofstra Killer' following her game-winning, solo home run off of Olivia Galati in 2010 that catapulted the Rams to a 1-0 victory. In 2009, she hit a two-run homer against the Pride to help Fordham to a 2-1 win in their first meeting of that season. Later in the campaign, she hit a home run in a 4-3 loss to Hofstra. In the 2011 meeting, the Pride was looking to enact some revenge.

It was Galati in the circle once again as Hofstra beat the Rams, 5-1. She threw a complete game two-hitter and lost her no-hit bid on an infield single by Pellechio in the bottom of the fourth.

The game started inauspiciously for the Rams as Hofstra loaded the bases in the first. Rachael Senatore led off with a double to center off of Chelsea Plimpton. Later in the inning, walks to Sara Michalowski and Jess Hirschbuhl loaded the bases with two outs. Laura Valentino then ripped a ball to right-center that hit off of the glove of Nicole Callahan for a two-base error that cleared the bases. The Pride led 3-0 on three unearned runs.

Two innings later, Hofstra extended the lead to 5-0 as Tessa Ziemba, who reached on a base hit to right, came around on a two-run home run from Michalowski. Those runs also came against Plimpton.

Jen Mineau replaced Plimpton in fourth and Hofstra got to her immediately. Senatore doubled down the right-field line and Hirschbuhl put runners on the corners with an infield single. Michalowski then walked to load the bases for Valentino. Mineau retired Valentino on a foul fly to left-field and the Rams escaped trouble.

The Rams had a stand-out defensive play in the top of the seventh when Michalowski ripped a ball to deep right-center that Jessica Crowley caught by sprawling out and colliding with the outfield fence. Her stalwart defense, couldn't change the fortunes of the Rams, though.

Fordham got its lone run in the sixth as Jocelyn Dearborn connected on her tenth home run of the season. The Pride won 5-1 as Plimpton took the loss and Galati earned the victory.

With the win, Hofstra improved to 23-8, while the Rams dropped to 22-16. Fordham returns to Atlantic 10 conference action on Friday, April 8 as they welcome the George Washington Colonials to Bahoshy Field for a single game. The first pitch is slated for 3:00 P.M.
