Final Stats

Orlando, Fla. - In day one of competition at the 2011 Citrus Classic from the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, Fordham beat Illinois state, 2-1. The Rams record is now 8-7.

The Rams had a chance to score in the first inning as Jocelyn Dearborn led off the game with a single up the middle. After Lindsey Kay Bright struck out, Dearborn stole second to get into scoring position with just one out. Dearborn would get stranded at second though as Nicole Callahan struck out and Gabby Luety popped up to end the scoring threat.

The Redbirds retaliated in the bottom of the first as Abby Olson connected on a solo home run of Jen Mineau to give Illinois State a 1-0 lead. There lead was short-lived, however, as Fordham would tie the game just two innings later.

In the top of the third, Beckah Wiggins worked out a walk. Meghan Shager advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt and Dearborn picked up her second hit of the game, an RBI double that scored Wiggins, and evened the score at 1-1. The next batter, Bright, worked a walk and Fordham had runners on first and second. Callahan then moved Dearborn to third with a fielder's choice that forced Shager at second. The next batter, hard-hitting freshman, Luety, delivered a clutch single through the left side of the infield that plated Dearborn and gave the Rams a 2-1 lead.

Neither team would score again, and Fordham had the come-from-behind, 2-1 victory. For the Rams, Mineau allowed just one run on two hits in her complete game win. Dearborn was 2-2 with an RBI double and a run scored.

The Rams will compete in day two of the 2011 Citrus Classic on Saturday, March 5. Fordham faces Illinois at 9:00 A.M. in a game broadcasted on espn3.com and in the rubber game, they will face #1/#3 Alabama at 12:30 P.M.
