Stony Brook Knocks Off Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Travis Jankowski went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while eight pitchers combined for a four-hitter, as the Seawolves defeated the Fordham Rams for the second time in four days by a final score of 13-1 at Houlihan Park.

With the win, Stony Brook improves to 11-5, while Fordham falls to 12-8.

The game was even at one apiece through three innings, as Stony Brook scored in the second inning with Fordham responding in the third.

In the second, Travis Jankowski reached on an infield single, stole second, and scored on a single by Josh Mason.

Fordham then tied the game in the third, as Ryan Maghini walked and Tim Swatek reached on an error. After a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Phelan advanced the runners, Maghini scored on an RBI-ground out by Ryan Lee.

Stony Brook then blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead, highlighted by three two-run doubles for the Seawolves by Pat Cantwell, William Carmona, and Maxx Tissenbaum.

The Seawolves would tack on three more runs in the fifth and two in the ninth to cap a 13-1 win. Stony Brook used eight pitchers in the game, which allowed just four hits and two walks.

For Fordham, Dan Sorine (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and five walks with three strikeouts, as the Rams also threw eight pitchers in the game.

At the plate, Lee was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Chris Walker and Brian Kownacki had the remaining two hits for the Rams.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, March 25th, when the Rams open Atlantic 10 play at La Salle, beginning at 3:00 PM.
