Box Score

Buies Creek, N.C. - With just nine total hits over the course of today's Fordham-Campbell baseball game, the difference would be the slightest error. Unfortunately for the Rams, that error came in the form of wildness, as the Fordham pitching staff issued six walks and hit eight Campbell batters, leading the Camels to a 5-2 win over the Rams at Taylor Field in Buies Creek, N.C.

With the loss, Fordham is now 11-5 on the season, while Campbell improved to 8-9.

Campbell struck first in this first ever meeting between the two schools, as Ellis Lowe doubled down the right field line, stole third, and pulled off the first and third double steal with Alan Denman to score the opening run of the game.

The Camels added two in the second as Fordham starter Dan Sorine had rough stretch. Campbell would net two runs on a walk and four hit batsmen by Sorine to pull out to a 3-0 lead.

Fordham struck back in the third with two runs of their own. Ryan Phelan connected for his first career hit, a double to left, and scored on a single by Nick Martinez. After a walk to Ryan David advanced Martinez to second, Chris Walker plated Martinez with a single to left.

Campbell got one run back in the fourth, as they regained a two-run edge at 4-2. Fordham reliever Jeremy Adel allowed a sacrifice fly to Denman, scoring Jimmy Brenneman, who was hit by a pitch, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch.

The Camels picked up an unearned run in the fifth off Fordham's Rich Anastasi to make it a 5-2 game. With one out, Kyle Holmstrom singled to right center and advanced to second on a fielding error. He then took third on a wild pitch and scored on a bunt single by Cameron Nelson. Fordham would end the threat however as Phelan threw out two base stealers to end the inning.

The three-run lead would hold up, as Fordham mustered just three base runners over the final six innings, as Campbell's bullpen allowed just two hits and a walk over that span.

Sorine (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on one hit, two walks, and five hit batsmen.

At the plate, Martinez was the only Ram with a multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Walker, Phelan, and Ryan Maghini accounted for the other three hits for the Rams.

The Fordham baseball team will now continue their road trip as the team heads north to South Orange, New Jersey for the Seton Hall Strike Out Cancer Tournament from March 18-20. The Rams will meet Seton Hall at noon on Friday, followed by two 10:00 AM games against Stony Brook on Saturday and NJIT on Sunday.
