Final Stats

Charlottesville, Va. - The Fordham softball team entered Monday's game with Virginia in the midst of a five-game winning streak which included a win over these same Cavaliers on Sunday, March 13. The Rams extended their winning streak to six on Monday with a 9-1 victory over Virginia. They were a perfect 5-0 in the Cavalier Classic.

Fordham took the lead right away in the game as Nicole Callahan walked with one out in the first inning. She was followed by Gabby Luety, who gave the Rams a 2-0 lead with a home run to left. The next two batters, Samantha Pellechio and Chelsea Palumbo each walked and then Jamie LaBovick ripped an RBI single up the middle that scored Pellechio and made it 3-0 Fordham. Beckah Wiggins followed LaBovick and was hit by the pitch. Meghan Shager plated the fourth run of the inning on an RBI groundout that scored Palumbo. The Rams got the fifth and sixth runs of the inning after Lindsey Kay Bright drove in LaBovick and Wiggins with a single to left. Bright was thrown out going for a double to allow Wiggins to score.

Jen Mineau was in the circle for Fordham, and the six-run first inning proved to be plenty of firepower for the All-American hurler. She walked the leadoff hitter for the Cavaliers, Giannina Cipolloni, who was promptly thrown out trying to steal second. Then, Mineau didn't allow another baserunner until the bottom of third, when Alex Skinkis reached on a fielding error by Jocelyn Dearborn and Cipollini singled. Both runners were stranded and Fordham maintained its 6-0 advantage.

Fordham extended the lead in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Dearborn singled to center. Nicole Callahan also singled and took second when the outfielder unsuccessfully tried to get Dearborn going first to third. With two runners in scoring position, Luety drove in her third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Dearborn. The Rams led 7-0. Pellechio followed Luety with an RBI double to left-center, scoring Jessica Crowley, who came in to run for Callahan.

Virginia finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Marcy Bowdren touched Mineau for a solo home run. That brought the score to 8-1 for the Rams.

Fordham put the game away in the fifth inning via the eight-run rule. With one out and one on, Jo Krasnisky reached on an infield single and advanced LaBovick to second. LaBovick was forced at third when Bright hit back to the box, so the Rams had runners on first and second with two outs. Dearborn then walked to load the bases and Krasnisky scored when Stephanie Coates uncorked a wild pitch.

Fordham held the lead in the bottom of the fifth and won 9-1. The Rams improved to 14-10 on the season and have now won six in a row, and seven of their last ten. Mineau threw a complete game and earned her sixth win of the season. She scattered just two hits and struck out five. Luety led the juggernaut on offense, going 2-2 with a home run and 3 RBI.

After an off-day on Tuesday, the Rams travel to College Park, Maryland to face the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday, March 16. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 P.M.
