Bronx, N.Y. - The Rams' welcomed the Hawks into the Rose Hill Gymnasium on Wednesday night looking to end a four-game losing streak. Despite a late rally from Fordham, Saint Joseph's held on for a 54-47 victory. The game, part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight, was a hard-fought, defensive contest that had scoring droughts for both teams.

After Saint Joe's jumped out to a 5-0 lead, Becky Peters made a three-pointer at 18:23 to put the Rams on the scoreboard. She would pick up two fouls in the first 3:09 of the game and be forced to sit for most of the half. The Hawks built their lead back up to five points, at 12-7, but eventually Fordham knotted the score at 12-12, courtesy of a Caitlin Shadbolt three-pointer. From there, neither side took a lead larger than four points, and the score was tied on two different occasions.

With the score even at 18-18 and 7:53 on the clock, both sides went into a scoring drought at neither squad found the net until the 2:16 mark (a period of 5:37) when Saint Joseph's Katie Kuester made a three-pointer. The Hawks took a 24-18 lead into the half.

The second half began with the Hawks extending their advantage to eight points before a Tiffany Stokes layup brought the Rams to 28-22. Ariel Dale followed that up with a hoop of her own and Fordham was within 4, 28-24. Shadbolt brought the Rams to within two, at 28-26, when she made a pair of free throws at 12:49.

The Hawks built the lead back up to 14 as the Rams went into their second dry spell of the game. Following a Kyara Weekes basket at 9:41, Fordham didn't find the basket again until the 2:50 mark when Kristina Bell made a three-pointer to bring the Rams within 11, 42-31. The Rams turned up the defensive pressure from there, and got to 44-40 when Arielle Collins buried a three-pointer with 1:08 left.

The Rams were forced to foul the rest of the way and the Hawks made enough foul shots to hold on for the win. Fordham's record now stands at 10-15, 2-7 in the A-10. Saint Joe's has a 14-9 overall mark, with a 4-5 conference ledger. Fordham returns to action on Saturday, February 12 as they meet the #7/6 Xavier Musketeers in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
