The Fordham Rams women's basketball team met the La Salle Explorers for the second time of the season on Sunday, February 6 in Philadelphia. The Rams took the inaugural meeting 69-54, in a game played in the Bronx on January 8. This time, they weren't as fortunate as the La Salle prevailed by the identical 69-54 score.
Senior Caitlin Shadbolt, who missed the first meeting with an injury, gave the Rams a 4-0 lead early with two foul shots and baseline layup early in the game. From there, La Salle went on a 12-3 run and grabbed a 12-7 edge on a Nadia Duncan layup at 10:28. The Explorers opened up a twenty-point halftime lead, 33-13.
The second half opened with Kyara Weekes making a three-point-play to bring the Rams within 33-16 at 19:46. The Rams got as close as 14, 40-36, on a Tiffany Stokes layup at 13:38. La Salle pushed the lead to 24 points at the 11:37 mark, but the Rams drew within 14 again; courtesy of a Shadbolt three-pointer at 3:12. Fordham got as close as 13 points, 67-54 when Abigail Corning hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds left. The Explorers made another hoop and won 69-54.
With the loss, the Rams are now 10-14 overall, 2-6 in the A-10. La Salle improves to 7-16, 3-5. Fordham returns to action on Wednesday, February 9, when they welcome fellow Big Five opponent Saint Joseph's into the Rose Hill Gymnasium. The game, which starts at 7:00 p.m., is part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.
Game Notes: Fordham shot 15-17 (0.83) from the foul line...The 69-54 final score was the final score in both games between the Rams and Explorers this season...Fordham blocked a season-high 7 shots in the game. Four of those were from Stokes...Ariel Dale scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
