Bronx, N.Y. - Wednesday was Senior Night at the Rose Hill Gymnasium and it was the seniors who cemented a Fordham victory over UMass 61-52. Prior to the game, the Rams honored seven seniors. The team members feted were: manager Adrienne Pesce, forwards Katie Vican, Caitlin Shadbolt and Tiffany Stokes, guards Kristina Bell and Kyara Weekes and forward Alexandria Zamora.

Early in the game, it was those same upperclassmen who helped assure a Fordham victory. With the Rams down 6-2, Shadbolt ran off four straight points and leveled the score at 6-6, at the 16:23 mark. Then the Minutewomen used an 8-2 run to take a 14-8 advantage.

With the score at 14-8, another senior, Bell, had the hot hand and made two straight three-pointers to knot the score at 14-14. Her triples were part of a 20-0 Fordham run that ran for 10:48 of game time. During that stretch, Arielle Collins had four points, one steal and one offensive rebound.

Fordham turned up the defensive intensity late in the half and forced UMass into 14 first-half turnovers (versus just four for the Rams). Stokes capped Fordham's scoring in the half with a long jumper with 0:30 seconds left. The Rams led 34-18 at the break.

The second half saw more Fordham seniors stepping up as Weekes hit a three-pointer at 10:31 to put the Rams comfortably ahead, 47-28. Less than two minutes later, Stokes hit another jumper, from the foul line extended, to keep Fordham ahead by 19 points. The fait accompli in the game came from the hands of sophomore Ranait Griff, whose three-pointer put Fordham up 20, 58-38, with 3:00 remaining.

Shadbolt led the Rams with 16 points. Stokes chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds. As a team, Fordham committed just six turnovers and had 18 assists. Weekes and Collins each had five assists.

With the win the Rams improve to 12-17, 4-9 in the Atlantic 10, while the Minutewomen sit at 7-21, 3-10 in conference. The Fordham women's basketball team closes out its regular seasons schedule on Saturday, February 26 when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to face the University of Dayton at 2:00 P.M.
