Fordham's Andrew Grosner defeated NYU's Zeke Hirschberg in straight sets at the number three slot, as the Fordham squash team earned a 7-2 win over NYU in the Rams' home opener at the Lombardi Squash Courts.
With the win, Fordham improved to 3-8 on the season, while NYU dropped to 0-6.
Fordham opened the match with three out of four wins in the first set of matches. Fordham's Ethan Brooks began things with a straight set win over Ramy Toma at the eighth slot, 11-1, 11-3, and 11-5, which was followed by a #6 slot win from Fordham's Chris Souther over Sam Cadman, 11-3, 11-7, and 11-9. Eli Plangger finished off the opening matches with a four-set decision over Kyle Song at the #4 slot (10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 11-3).
In the second wave, Fordham earned victories at the #3, #5, #7, and #9 positions to seal the 7-2 win. Grosner swept Hirschberg at #3 (11-5, 11-8, 11-6) with Raymond Chen taking down Sam Chappelle, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-9. Alex Williams topped Somesh Batra in the #7 spot (11-9, 11-2, 11-4), while Quetzalli Torres ended the match with a win at the #9 slot over Sarang Paraskar by scores of 11-7, 11-8, and 11-9.
The Fordham squash team will next be in action on January 28th, when the Rams host a pair of matches at the Lombardi Squash Courts. Fordham hosts Connecticut College at 12:30 PM, followed by a match against Middlebury at 3:00 PM.
