Water Polo Splits Matches on Day One of the CWPA Northern Division Championship

Cambridge, Mass. - The Fordham water polo team made its annual trip to the CWPA Northern Division Championship on Saturday, held in Cambridge, Massachusetts at MIT. The fifth-seeded Rams opened with an extremely tight contest against Iona, falling by one, 8-7, and then followed with a 14-7 win over Connecticut College.

With the split, Fordham is now 8-20 on the year.

In the opening game, Fordham opened with a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, but Iona would knot the score at five by halftime.

Each team netted a goal in the third quarter, but it was Iona that scored twice in the fourth quarter to Fordham's one for the 8-7 victory.

For Fordham, Robert Fleming led the Rams' attack with three goals, while Andrew McKernin, Josh Itano, Ben Clinkinbeard, and Nicholas Allen each had one tally. In net, Noah LeBeau had 13 saves.

In the Rams' second game, Fordham took care of Connecticut College by a 14-7 final score.

Jake Bakas led the way for the Rams with a season-high five goals, while Fleming added three tallies. Itano, Allen, and Eric Minowitz rounded out the scoring with two goals apiece. In net, LeBeau made five saves in the first half, while Christian Flessner made four saves in the second half.

The Fordham water polo team will wrap up play at the Northern Division Championship on Sunday, as the Rams take on MIT at 9:00 AM.
