With a balanced offensive attack that saw six players registered at least six kills, the Fordham volleyball team earned a four-set win over the Temple Owls to keep their Atlantic 10 playoff hopes alive with three matches remaining. Final set scores were 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, and 25-17.
With the win, Fordham improves to 7-20 on the year, 4-8 in the Atlantic 10, while Temple fell to 7-18 on the season, 3-9 in the league.
Temple drew first blood with a three-point first set win, led by Gabriella Matautia's six kills and three digs.
Fordham rebounded in set two, as they were faced with a Temple set point at 24-23. Kim Capicotto registered a kill for Fordham to tie the score at 24. After a Temple error gave Fordham a set point, Brittany Daulton closed out the second set with a kill, knotting the match at one set apiece.
In set three, Fordham led throughout, but saw Temple knot the score at 23 all. However, the Rams came up with back-to-back blocks, first by Randi Ewing and Rose Diaz-Vazquez and then by Carina Thompson and Lisa Hipp, to take a 2-1 set lead.
The Rams would build up an early lead in set four and close out the match with an eight-point set win, hitting .321 in the deciding set.
For Fordham, Hipp had one of her best matches of the season, registering 15 kills, 14 digs, and four blocks, while Ewing added 10 kills and seven blocks. Both Fordham setters also recorded double-doubles, as Sara Konkel had 28 assists and 14 digs with Mary Diamantidis having 21 assists and 11 digs. Diaz-Vazquez added eight kills and five blocks with Thompson having seven kills and four blocks. Daulton and Capicotto rounded out the Fordham attack with six kills each as well, while Megan Arend added eight digs and five assists.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Sunday, November 6th, when the Rams travel to Dayton, Ohio, to face the Dayton Flyers at 3:30 PM.
