On a night where the Rams' honored their senior trio of Megan Arend, Kim Capicotto and Brittany Daulton, it was an eerie sense of déjà vu on Saturday night. Like Friday, the Rams led their Atlantic 10 match against the George Washington, two sets to one, but could not get the closing marker, as the Colonials rallied for a five-set victory. Final set scores were 25-15, 22-25, 12-25, 25-19, and 17-15.
With the loss, Fordham ends their season at 7-23, 4-11 in the Atlantic 10, while George Washington finishes their regular season with a 20-9 record and 9-6 in the league.
After dropping the opening set, Fordham rallied for a three-point set win in the second set, led by Randi Ewing's six kills.
The Rams really put the pressure on in set three, hitting .429 with just one error, as Fordham posted a 13-point set win to earn a 2-1 set advantage.
George Washington though would not go away, as MacKenzie Knox connected for four kills in the fourth set, while holding Fordham to a .000 hitting percentage as the match went on to a decisive fifth set.
The Colonials would build up a four-point lead, 14-10, in the fifth set. The Rams responded by fighting off four consecutive match points to knot the score at 14. After exchanging side outs, George Washington's Lauren Whyte connected for back-to-back kills to give the Colonials the five-set win.
For Fordham, Ewing posted a team-high 15 kills and .423 hitting percentage to go with two blocks, while Lisa Hipp had eight kills and 13 digs. Daulton added seven kills and nine digs in her final match at Fordham, with Capicotto posting six kills in her last match. Mary Diamantidis posted a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs with Sara Konkel adding 21 assists and nine digs. Arend, the Rams' final senior, added 14 digs and three assists, giving her 859 career digs, moving her into 12th place on the Rams' all-time list.
