Swimming & Diving Takes Part in Tri-Meet at Boston University

Boston, Mass. - (Nov. 12, 2011) - After a week's hiatus from competition, the Fordham swimming & diving teams were back in action on Saturday in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Boston University Pool. The Rams posted a total of 14 event wins and 16 season-best times, as the Fordham women's team defeated Boston University, 158-125, while the Fordham men's team fell to the Terriers, 166-111, and Texas A&M, 156-113.

The decisions improve the women's record to 3-0, while the men's team is now 1-3.

The meet opened with the 200 medley relay event with both Fordham squads posting their best time of the season. The women's 200 medley relay team of Brienne Ryan, Courtney Collyer, Kelly Bunster, and Kellie Lyver placed second overall in a time of 1:47.05, while the men's team of Thomas Yi, Ben Dwyer, Shintaro Noguchi, and Devon Morris placed fourth in a season-best time of 1:36.09.

In the other relay event of the day, Fordham won both 400 freestyle relay events, as Lyver, Alana Biagioli, Ariana Peschke, and Ryan won in a season-best time of 3:29.70, while Noguchi, Patrick Militti, Nick Belfanti, and Morris won their event in a season-best time of 3:07.90.

In the individual events, Collyer continued her impressive run, winning all three individual events she entered in. She won both the 100 (56.75) and 200 (2:02.52 - season-best) butterfly, as well as the 200 individual medley in her best time of the season (2:06.67).

Joining Collyer as multi-event winners on the women's side, Ryan won both the 100 (55.47 - season-best) and 200 (2:00.80 - season-best) backstroke events, while Kara Field won the two distance freestyle events in 5:05.69 (500 freestyle) and 10:26.27 (1000 freestyle - season-best).

In addition, Fordham also posted event wins in the women's 50 and 100 freestyle, the women's one-meter dive, the men's 100 butterfly and the men's 200 individual medley. Lyver took home the 50 freestyle in 24.62 seconds, while Peschke won the 100 freestyle in 53.55 seconds. Andrea Krok was the final women's event winner, taking the one-meter diving competition with a season-best score of 255.20.

On the men's side, Noguchi won the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 50.20 seconds, while also taking third in the 200 freestyle in 1:42.28. Yi won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:57.77 and added a third and a fifth place finish respectively in the 200 backstroke (1:53.72) and the 100 backstroke (52.64).

Other top performances came from Sean McManus (2nd - 200 breast - 2:13.42), Militti (2nd - 100 butterfly - 51.70), and Alexandra Wessel (2nd - 200 freestyle - 1:54.58).

The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action next weekend, November 18-20, as they compete at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
