Bronx, N.Y. - Leading two sets to one, the Fordham volleyball team looked primed to improve to 7-0 all-time against Charlotte at the friendly confines of the Rose Hill Gym on Friday. However, Bianca Rouse had other ideas as the Charlotte hitter accounted for 22 kills to lead the 49ers to a five-set comeback victory over the Rams. Final set scores were 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 27-25, and 15-9.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 7-22 overall, 4-10 in the Atlantic 10, while Charlotte improved to 12-14 on the season, 6-8 in the conference.

In the opening set, the score slid back and forth with Fordham earning set point at 24-23 on a kill by Rose Diaz-Vazquez. Charlotte fought off that set point to tie the score at 24, and eventually won the set, 27-25, on a Fordham attack error.

Set two saw Fordham take charge with the score tied at 10 all. The Rams scored seven of the next nine points to grab a five-point edge at 17-12, and took the set by six, 25-19. Diaz-Vazquez netted five kills in the set to lead the Fordham attack.

The third set saw six tie scores and four lead changes with the last tie score at 23 all, following a kill by Fordham's Brittany Daulton. Diaz-Vazquez then registered another kill, which was followed by a Daulton-Randi Ewing block, giving Fordham a 25-23 set win, and a 2-1 set edge.

Set four was even closer between the Rams and 49ers with 11 tie scores in the set. Fordham earned match point at 25-24 on a Charlotte error, but the 49ers responded with a Bianca Rouse kill to knot the score at 25. A Fordham attack error on the next play gave Charlotte a set point, which they capitalized on with a block on Lisa Hipp to force a fifth and deciding set.

Charlotte came out of the gates on fire in the final set, jetting out to a 6-1 lead, and never looking back as the 49ers won the decisive set, 15-9.
