Bronx, N.Y. -
Saint Louis' Andrea Beaty and Alysso Deno each recorded 17 kills, while Emma Goldschmidt added 13 kills, as the Billikens topped the Fordham Rams in four sets at the Rose Hill Gym on Friday night. Final set scores were 30-28, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-14.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-13 overall, 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Louis improves to 7-8 overall, 3-2 in the league.
In set one, the scoring was extremely tight, as Fordham fought off three set points by the Billikens, while earning a set point at 28-27 on a Saint Louis' error. The Rams thought Lisa Hipp's attack had deflected off the Billikens' block to get the set win, but the linesman called no touch, making the score 28 all. Saint Louis used that point and back-to-back kills by Emma Goldschmidt and Carly Marcum to win the set, 30-28.
Set two was also tight as the score was tied at 19 all. Three kills by Beaty over a six-point stretch gave the Billikens a 23-21 edge, which they would hold on to for the set win.
The Rams bounced back in the third set, earning a five-point win, behind a six-kill set by Fordham's Randi Ewing, while Carina Thompson added four kills as well for the Rams.
In set four, Saint Louis got out to an early lead at 6-2, and built that lead up quickly into an 11-point set win behind a .357 team hitting percentage.
For Fordham, Thompson registered a career-high 14 kills to go with five blocks, while Brittany Daulton had a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Ewing added eight kills and six blocks with Krissy Buongiorno having five kills and eight blocks. Megan Arend chipped in four assists and 11 digs with Sara Konkel and Mary Diamantidis having 21 and 18 assists, respectively.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 8th, when the Rams host Duquesne at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
