Pittsburgh, Pa. -
Still playing without three players, the Fordham volleyball team looked to pull out another win against a nemesis team like they did against Saint Louis on Friday. Unfortunately, despite a career-high 18 kills from Fordham's Randi Ewing, the Rams dropped a four-set match to the Duquesne Dukes. Final set scores were 25-12, 23-25, 28-26, and 25-22.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 6-20 on the year, 3-8 in the Atlantic 10, while Duquesne improved to 17-8 on the year, 7-4 in the league.
Set one was mostly in favor of Duquesne, as the Dukes scored 13 of the final 17 points to take the set by 12.
The second set had a lot of back-and-forth play with seven tie scores, the last at 23 all. The Rams then got back-to-back kills from Randi Ewing to earn the 25-23 set win, and knot the match at one set apiece.
Set three was just as tight with Fordham having a pair of set points at 24-23 and 25-24. However, two service errors by the Rams left the score tied. Duquesne then got a service ace to get the advantage and eventually got the set win, 28-26, on a kill by Sara Scheirman.
In the final set, Duquesne built up a seven-point lead, earning match point at 24-17. Fordham valiantly fought off five match points to get the score to 24-22, but a block by Allison Foschia would give Duquesne the match win.
For Fordham, Ewing had a career-high 18 kills to go with four blocks, while Brittany Daulton added 15 kills and six digs. Mary Diamantidis had a season-high 42 assists to go with nine digs and three kills with Kim Capicotto adding eight kills. Emily Atwood also had a career-high 19 digs for the Rams.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, November 4th, when the Rams host Temple University at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
