Water Polo Finishes Regular Season With 16-5 Win Over Connecticut College

Oct. 29, 2011

New London, Conn. - The Fordham football team wasn't the only team that had to deal with the elements to get to their road contest on Saturday, as the water polo team traveled up to New London, Connecticut for their regular season finale against Connecticut College. The Rams warmed up the pool with plenty of offense, posting a 16-5 win over the Fighting Camels.

With the win, Fordham improved to 7-19 on the season, 3-3 in the CWPA Northern Division.

With the score tied at three at the half, Fordham outscored Connecticut College, 7-0, in the third period, and 13-2 in the second half to post the 11-goal win.

J.D. Shrewsbury and Robert Fleming netted four goals each to lead the Fordham attack, while Andrew McKernin had three goals and drew four ejections. Daniel Barron had a goal and two assists with Ben Cluinkinbeard having a pair of goals. Josh Itano and Nicholas Allen rounded out the Rams' scoring.

In net, Noah LeBeau played three quarters, registering five saves and a steal, while Christian Flessner has four saves, one assist, and one steal in the final quarter.

The win leaves Fordham in a tie for third place, but due to tie-breakers will be seeded fifth at next week's CWPA Northern Division Championship, hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Rams will open against fourth-seeded Iona at 9:30 AM.
