Oct. 22, 2011

Princeton, N.J. - The Fordham water polo team had their final two non-league games on Saturday, down at Princeton University. In the opener, Fordham fell to #14 Princeton by a 14-6 score, while in game two, the Rams' comeback effort came up short in a 12-10 loss to George Washington.

With the two losses, Fordham is now 6-18 on the season.

In match one, the Rams led the Tigers, 3-2, after the first quarter, but the 14th-ranked Tigers outscored Fordham, 12-3, over the final three periods for the 14-6 victory.

After Princeton netted the first two goals of the game, Fordham scored three straight markers to end the period ahead by one. Nicholas Allen and Ben Clinkinbeard scored to tie the game at two with Robert Fleming netting a five-meter goal for a 3-2 lead.

The score was tied at four in the second period, when the Tigers started a string of seven straight tallies to lead 11-4 by the 3:49 mark of the third period, en route to the eight-goal win.

Besides the first quarter tallies, Allen netted a second goal in the contest with Jake Bakas and Alex Judge having the other markers. Christian Flessner played the entire game in goal, posting 14 saves.

In game two, the Rams trailed 8-3 at half to the Colonials, but a 5-2 scoring edge in the third, left Fordham down just two after the third period.

However, the Rams and Colonials each netted a pair of goals in the final frame for the 12-10 George Washington win.

For Fordham, Andrew McKernin had his first three-goal game of the season, while J.D. Shrewsbury, Fleming, and Eric Minowitz each had two goals. Bakas had the final Fordham tally, while in net, Noah LeBeau had six saves.

The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Tuesday, October 25th, when the Rams play at Iona College in a conference match-up, beginning at 7:30 PM.
