The Fordham volleyball team hosted the team's "Dig Pink" match for breast cancer awareness on Friday, but the match went the way of the blue and gray of Xavier, as the Musketeers hit .507 as a team to post a three-set sweep of the Rams at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-14.
With the loss, Fordham drops to 5-18 overall, 2-6 in the Atlantic 10, while Xavier improved to 14-7 on the season, 6-2 in the league.
Set one saw the score tied at 13 before Xavier finished with a 12-2 run to win the set by ten. The Muskeeters hit .481 in the set, led by four kills from Kelsey Dunaway.
The second set wasn't much kinder to the Rams, as Xavier posted a .522 hitting percentage, posting 12 kills and no errors along with four blocks in a 14-point set win.
In the final set, the serving of Kaela Jo Freppon controlled the momentum for Xavier, as she posted three of her six service aces in the set and added four kills, while Sarah Brown had six kills to wrap up a sweep of the Rams.
Xavier finished with only five errors to 43 kills, while Fordham had 18 kills to 17 errors. Xavier also outblocked Fordham, 7-1.
For Fordham, Brittany Daulton had a team-high six kills to go with four digs, while Mary Diamantidis had 10 assists and five digs. Maria Rodenberg also had seven digs defensively for the Rams.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Saturday, October 22nd, when the Rams host the Dayton Flyers at 7:00 PM in the Rose Hill Gym.
