The Fordham women's basketball team fell to Saint Louis Tuesday night, 64-54 in a game played in St. Louis, Missouri. The game was part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight. In the defeat, Tiffany Stokes recorded game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (13), en route to her third straight double-double.
The Rams opened with a torrid pace as they used the first five minutes of clock to build a 12-4 lead. During that stretch Kyara Weekes had five points (on a three-pointer and a jumper), Caitlin Shadbolt scored four points, and Becky Peters and Stokes found the scoreboard.
The Billikens then countered with an 11-2 run of their own to take a 15-14 lead on an Ayriell Robinson three-pointer at 10:43. The teams shared the lead for the next few minutes until Saint Louis extended their edge to five on a Robinson layup at 5:09. Fordham answered later when Alexandria Zamora hit an open jumper that brought the Rams within three, 26-23, at the 2:17 mark. The Billikens tacked on a point and took a 27-25 advantage into the locker room.
Fordham opened the second half with a 10-4 run and took a 33-31 lead at 16:25 courtesy of a Weekes three-pointer. Saint Louis tied the score less than two minutes later. At that point, the Rams went on yet another run, this one, a 9-2 outburst, was capped by a Stokes basket. Saint Louis got back within a point at the 10:01 mark, but a Kristina Bell three-pointer at 8:59 extended the Fordham advantage back to six, 48-42.
The Billikens then spent the next four minutes chipping away at the Fordham lead, eventually evening the score at 51-51 on a pair of free throws from Jacy Bradley. This was the fifth tie of the game. Saint Louis took the lead a minute later and never looked back as they went on to win 64-54.
Fordham had three players score in double figures in the contest. In addition to Stokes, Weekes finished with 13 and Shadbolt scored 10. The Rams had 18 assists and just 16 turnovers.
Fordham now owns a 10-11 mark on the season, including a 2-3 conference record. They return to action on Saturday, January 29, when they face Duquesne University at 2:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
