Fordham Closes Out Non-Conference Schedule with 48-43 Win at Albany

Albany, N.Y. - As the calendar turns the page on the New Year, the Fordham Rams remained creatures of habit as they beat the University at Albany 48-43, holding yet another opponent to under 50 points. This marks the fifth straight game in which the Rams reached this milestone and was the seventh time all-season.

Fordham jumped out to a 6-2 lead to start the game on buckets from Kristina Bell, Tiffany Stokes and Abigail Corning. Albany responded with an 8-4 run of their own, capping the scoring with an Ebone Henry three-pointer at 11:59 to tie the score at 10.

The game remained within a possession from that point until a Melia Basavand three-pointer gave the hosts a 20-15 lead at 2:52. Fordham closed out the half scoring the final three points from a Becky Peters jumper and a Stokes free throw. The Great Danes led 22-20 at the intermission.

The second half began with an 8-2 Rams run which was capped by a Corning three-pointer at 16:41. The score stood 28-24 for Fordham. Julie Forster countered less than two minutes later with two of her eight points, and the game was tied for the fourth time, 28-28. The game would be tied two more times in the half as both teams turned up the defensive pressure.

At the 6:11 mark, with the Rams up 37-35, Arielle Collins buried one of her two three-pointers to extend the Fordham lead to 40-35. Albany got within one point, 44-43, but in the closing minute, the Rams put the game away with two key plays.

Out of a timeout, Collins found a cutting Bell for a layup that gave the Rams a 46-43 lead with 0:27 left. Later, Kyara Weekes pulled down a key rebound and put the game away with a pair of foul shots.

Becky Peters scored a game-high 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Abigail Corning chipped in with 10 points and logged 39 minutes. She also grabbed nine rebounds.

With the win, Fordham evens it record at 8-8, while the Great Danes fall to 7-6. The Rams return home to open up Atlantic 10 Conference play when the LaSalle Explorers visit the Rose Hill Gymnasium on Saturday, January 8. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Game Notes...Albany was the fifth consecutive opponent the Rams held to under 50 points...Fordham forced 21 Albany turnovers and had 11 steals...Fordham was out rebounded (39-37) for the second straight game.
