Charlotte, N.C. - On what turned out to be an event more than a road trip, the Fordham Rams women's basketball team fell to Charlotte, 74-41 in a game played in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday. For Fordham, it was difficult enough to get there, having to deal with the blizzard before even arriving in the Tar Heel State.

The Rams arrived at LaGaurdia Airport early Tuesday morning in the hopes of having their flight get out early to Charlotte. That flight was eventually canceled because the state of North Carolina declared an emergency due to the snowy and icy conditions. The Rams waited in Queens for several hours before they split up, with half the team going to Greensboro, North Carolina via Washington, D.C. and the remainder of the squad arriving directly from New York. After the team rendezvoused in Greensboro, they all boarded a bus for the 80-mile trek to Charlotte. All in all they were away from home from 4 a.m. until 11 p.m.

The game started out auspiciously for the Rams as Charlotte Stoddart hit a three-pointer to give the Rams a 3-2 lead with 18:42 on the clock. From there, the fresh and precocious 49ers took the game over. Charlotte grabbed a 33-11 lead on a 27-9 run that was capped by a three-pointer from Jai Fortney at 4:47. After that, Tiffany Stokes ran off six straight points for the Rams coming off of two layups and a jumper. The 49ers led 37-19 at the half.

The second half effort of the Rams was commendable, but the lead was insurmountable. Fordham saw Becky Peters get hot in the second half when she drained back-to-back three-pointers at 14:04 and 13:25 respectively. Kristina Bell followed with a put back off a missed shot at 12:33 to pull Fordham within 19, but the Rams never got any closer.

With the loss, the Rams evened their record at 9-9 (1-1) while Charlotte improved to 13-4 (1-1). Peters paced Fordham with 11 points, while making 3-of-8 three-point attempts. Kyara Weekes chipped in with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, while grabbing six rebounds.

Fordham has a short rest before they return to action on Saturday, January 15 as they welcome the Temple Owls to the Rose Hill Gymnasium. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Game Notes: Peters made 3-of-8 three-pointers...Rams have won three of their last five games...Fordham is 4-6 on the road this season...The Rams scored 20 points in the paint.
