After a successful first day at the Navy Open, the Fordham water polo team took on two tough opponents on day two in Johns Hopkins and 18th-ranked Bucknell. Both matches were extremely close, but Fordham came up on the wrong end, falling to Johns Hopkins, 11-10, and Bucknell, 16-13.
With the losses, Fordham finished the tournament at 2-3.
The Rams opened the day by dropping a one-goal decision, 11-10, to Johns Hopkins, who is receiving votes in the national water polo poll.
Fordham's Ali Arat and Ben Clinkinbeard led the scoring attack with three goals and one steal apiece, while Daniel Muñoz added a pair of tallies. Nicholas Allen and Ricky Dilday also had one marker each for the Rams.
In net, Christian Flessner made nine stops.
In the night cap, Arat netted six goals and drew six major fouls, but it was not enough against #18 Bucknell, falling to the Bison by a 16-13 count.
Besides Arat, Dilday had a pair of goals, while Ryan Hultman posted a goal and two assists. Allen and Daniel Barron each had a goal and an assist in the match with Jake Bakas and Jakob Muller closing out the scoring with a goal each.
Flessner finished the game with 11 saves and added two assists.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on September 11th & 12th as it competes at the Princeton Invitational. Fordham opens play with matches against host Princeton (9:00 AM) and Santa Clara (4:30 PM) on Friday, and then play George Washington (10:30 AM) and Johns Hopkins (4:30 PM) on Saturday.
