Despite a large 16-9 shot advantage by Fordham, Central Connecticut's Terrell Whitting scored on a rebound shot with only 1:49 remaining in the second overtime, as the Blue Devils took a 2-1 decision from the Fordham Rams on Saturday night in New Britain, Connecticut.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 3-4 on the season, while Central Connecticut improved to 3-4.
The Rams wasted little time getting the early lead, just 1:44 into the match. Andre Seidenthal headed in a center pass from Tim Richardson for his first collegiate goal.
The Blue Devils answered back late in the first half with 1:08 remaining. Joel Dimand fed a pass through the Fordham defense to Shawn Buchanan, who beat Fordham goalkeeper Ryan Meara to the lower right side for his second goal of the season.
The score remained tied through the second half, forcing overtime. It wasn't until the final minutes of the second overtime period that the game was decided, as the Blue Devils' Terrell Whitting subbed back into the game late, and scored the game-winning goal for Central Connecticut. Whitting picked up a loose rebound and beat Meara to the lower left corner for his third goal of the season, giving the Blue Devils a 2-1 victory.
Meara finished with three saves on the evening for Fordham, while Anthony Occhialini and James Perkins split time for the Blue Devils. Perkins earned the win, making three saves over the final 63:11 of the match.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 2nd, when it hosts Manhattan College, beginning at 7:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
