The Fordham men's soccer squad traveled out to Kentucky on Friday night to face the eleventh-ranked University of Louisville Cardinals for the first time in program history but couldn't get a ball past the Cardinal keeper, falling 2-0 at Cardinal Park.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 1-2 on the year while Louisville improves to 2-0-1.
The game was scoreless in the first half, with Louisville outshooting the Rams 4-1 in the period. There was only one save in the first 45 minutes that coming from Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux off a Matt Courtenay shot in the 40th minute. On the play, a free kick was played into the box where Boudreaux punched the ball into the air right to Courtenay who placed a header on net, forcing Boudreaux to make a diving save.
Louisville got on the board early in the second half when a J.T. Murray shot was deflected past Fordham keeper Ryan Meara in the 47th minute. It was his first goal of the year.
The Rams got off three shots in the second half but none of those were on net. The Cardinals took a two goal lead in the 63rd minute when Nick DeLeon sent a cross in front of the net to Dylan Mares who beat Meara for his first tally of the season.
Meara finished with two save in the Fordham net.
The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, September 12th, as they travel up to Cincinnati to face the University of Cincinnati at 1:00 p.m.
