Bronx, N.Y. - A quality pitching performance by Fordham's John Flanagan and a three-hit night for Angelo Ponte were not enough on Tuesday. The Rams committed four errors in the game, which led to the Marist Red Foxes earning a 4-3 win over Fordham at Houlihan Park.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 16-29, while Marist improved to 26-17.

The Rams had started out the game playing solid defense, as Fordham worked out of a jam in the second inning with a 6-4-3 double play, while in third and fourth innings, starting pitcher John Flanagan made two quick stabs off the pitching mound to keep Marist off the scoreboard.

Fordham rewarded Flanagan with a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Angelo Ponte led off the inning with a double down the left field line. After a pair of pop outs, P.J. Como drove a deep fly ball to left center, which Ricky Pasione was unable to corral, allowing Ponte to score on the RBI-triple. After Ryan Maghini reached on a catcher's interference call, Ryan Lee singled through the left side to score Como from third with Maghini moving to second. Brian Kownacki then finished with rally with an RBI-single to right center to score Maghini.

The score stayed at 3-0 until the top of the seventh, when Marist pulled within 3-2. Michael Gallic opened the inning with a single to left, and moved to third on a single by Ryan Gauck. After a strikeout, Gallic scored on a passed ball for the Red Foxes' first run. John Prano then hit a line drive to shortstop, which shot up off Kownacki's glove on a funny hop, allowing Gauck to score.

Marist then took the lead in the eighth at 4-3. After loading the bases with two outs on a single and two walks, Mark Stuckey hit a ground ball to third that Maghini couldn't handle, allowing one run to score and tie the game. Prano then singled up the middle to score the go-ahead run, but Mike Mobbs threw out the second runner from centerfield trying to score keeping Fordham within one.

Fordham looked to respond right away in the eighth, as Fordham had first and third with one out, but Marist reliever Chris Bielak was able to get Como on a strikeout and pinch hitter Stephen McSherry on a ground out to end the inning.

Sean McKeown then came on in the ninth to record his fifth save of the season for Marist, retiring the Rams in order on two ground outs and a pop up.

For Fordham, reliever Dan Sorine (0-1) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and two walks, while Flanagan received a no-decision, after going 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

At the plate, Ponte was 3-for-4 with a double, while Como was 2-for-4 with an RBI-triple.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, May 7th, when the Rams open a three-game Atlantic 10 series against the Saint Joseph's Hawks at Campbell's Field in Camden, New Jersey, beginning at 1:00 PM.
