Everything was going Fordham's way in their game at New York Tech on Wednesday, getting out to a 7-0 lead through the top of the fifth inning.  The Bears though would not give up, as they came back to defeat the Rams, 9-8, at President's Field in Old Westbury, New York.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-19 overall, while New York Tech goes to 6-12.
The Rams opened with a four-run frame in the first inning, highlighted by three RBI-doubles.  With one out, Ryan Lee drew a walk and stole second base.  Mike Mobbs followed with an RBI-single to give Fordham their first run.  After Mobbs stole second, Chris Walker doubled down the left field line to score Mobbs for a 2-0 lead.  Michael Taddei and Brian Kownacki continued the inning with back-to-back RBI-doubles, giving Fordham a 4-0 lead.
Fordham added two more runs in the third inning, as Mobbs led off the inning with a solo home run to right, his team-leading third of the year.  McCrann and Walker followed with a single and a double, respectively, putting runners at second and third.  After a strikeout,   Kownacki plated McCrann with a sacrifice fly to right center.
The Rams picked up a single run in the top of the fifth to lead by a 7-0 count.  Pinch-hitter 
Angelo Ponte singled home McCrann from third, after McCrann singled, stole second, and took third on a wild pitch.
After five innings of two-hit ball by Fordham freshmen Joseph Charest, Ryan DeMartino, and Rich Anastasi, New York Tech rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth off relievers Brando Casalicchio and Dan Sorine to pull within, 7-6, highlighted by a three-run home run by Jerry Smith, his third of the year.
The Bears then grabbed an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the seventh off Fordham reliever Daniel Munday, as Smith started the rally by reaching first on a hit by pitch, followed by a single by Sebastian Grazziani.  Pinch-hitter Ali Rodriguez then hit a sharp ground ball to first, but beat the play for an infield single with Smith scoring on the play.  Rodriguez then stole second, which allowed Grazziani to score from third.
New York Tech added another run in the eighth on a Fordham error, entering the ninth with a 9-7 lead.
In the ninth, Fordham attempted a comeback as Stephen McSherry drew a walk to open the inning, while Mike Mobbs doubled through the right side with no outs.  McCrann then grounded out to first, allowing McSherry to score with Mobbs moving to third.  Walker was the next batter and hit a ground ball to second, which Ryan Campbell threw home, getting Mobbs just before he touched home plate.  Angelo Ponte was the final hope for the Rams, but grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
For Fordham, Munday (3-3) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.  At the plate, Mobbs was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Walker was 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, April 9th, when they open a three-game series at St. Bonaventure, beginning at 3:00 PM.
