Box Score

April 23, 2010

AMBLER, Pa. - Fordham's sophomore pitcher Jen Mineau (Schaghticoke, N.Y./Hoosic Valley Central) struck out the side three times at Temple on Friday, en route to her second no-hitter of the season and fourth no-no of her career. The Fordham offense backed their pitcher with three home runs within the first three inning as the Rams defeated the Owls, 6-0, in Atlantic 10 action, advancing their win streak to 12 games.

With 14 strikeouts through seven innings, Mineau tallied her 12th complete shutout victory of the season and second in a row. With her record now at 25-5, the sophomore becomes the single-season win leader. Sara Kinney held the previous record with 24 wins in 2005. By setting the single-season win record, Mineau has had a hand in setting seven team records in 2010.

With the win, Fordham is 38-8 overall and 11-2 in the Atlantic 10.

One out left? No problem. The Rams scored right away, plating two unearned runs in their first at bat. The Owls took two outs quickly away from Fordham in the first, but then pitcher Kristen Marris hit junior Beckah Wiggins (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) with her second pitch. Senior Erin Fisher (Woodinville, Wash./Woodinville) singled through the left side to advance Wiggins to scoring position. With a walk, junior Samantha Pellechio (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) loaded the bases for junior catcher Meghan Shager (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) at the plate. Shager reached first on a bauble by the shortstop as Wiggins scored on the play. Temple's shortstop, Christina Sykora threw to third to try to get the out as Fisher rounded the bases to home plate as well. Fordham took a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Fordham bats were large and in charge as two home runs were hit in the inning. Sophomore Jessica Richards (Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo) led off with a first-pitch home run to right field to give Fordham the three run advantage. Her homer was the second of the season. Classmate Lindsey Kay Bright (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur) was safe at first after another error in the field, this time by the Owls' thirdbaseman. After junior Jocelyn Dearborn (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge) struck out, rookie Jamie LaBovick (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) sent a rip over the left center wall for a two-run homer, scoring Bright.

Leading by five runs, the Rams scored their sixth and final run in the third inning, as Shager hit her career-first home run to right center.

Although the Rams got on base the bottom half of the game, no more runs would score for Fordham.

LaBovick finished up the game 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. Shager, Richards are Fisher were all 1-for-4 and combined for three runs and two RBI.

Up next, the Rams and Owls will finish up their two-day series at noon on Saturday.
