Box Score

Box Score

Clearwater, Fla. - Ball State (10-5) scored four runs in the second and seven in the final two innings to hand Fordham (10-4) their first loss of the USF Under Armour Invitational on the final day of competition at the Eddie C. More Complex.

Fordham finished the tournament 4-1

Junior Jocelyn Dearborn (New Milford, Pa./Blue Ridge), playing third base, sent in the Rams only run of the game scoring sophomore Nicole Callahan (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) with a single to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

Fordham was too late with the bats as the final at bat of the outing was their most productive. Callahan led off with a double to left center, followed by sophomore Erica Borgeest (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) who walked to move Callahan to scoring position. Boorgeest was thrown out on a fielders' choice as Callahan moved to third on rookie Katherine VanBenschoten's (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) hit to the shortstop. Junior catcher Meghan Shager (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) walked to load the bases. Dearborn got up with her single to center to score Callahan and keep the bases loaded but sophomore Lindsey Kay Bright (Federal Way, Wash./Decatur) hit one right back to the Ball State pitcher to end the game.

In the circle for Ball State was Elizabeth Milian (8-1). She struck out eight Fordham batters and allowed just six hits in 26 at bats and 29 batters faced.

Fordham started with rookie Jamie LaBovick (1-1) (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) in the circle, who recorded the loss in her two innings of work. LaBovick struck out three. Junior Chelsea Plimpton (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville South) came in for relief and struck out three batters in 3.1 innings. Junior Beckah Wiggins (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) also pitched for the Rams, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The Fordham Rams are back in action on March 13 as they travel to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Tournament. Fordham will play host school Georgia Tech, as well as Georgia State and Mercer in the two day tournament.
