Cathedral City, Calif. - Another 4-0 shutout for the Fordham softball as the Rams defeated the UNLV Rebels in their tournament-finale, Saturday night at the Fenway Park replica at the Palm Springs Classic.
With the win, Fordham went 3-2 at the Palm Springs Classic with a 4-0 upset victory over No. 19/24 Texas A&M to open the tournament, a 3-2 win over Oregon State on Friday and this final 4-0 shutout. Fordham is 6-3 overall on the season. With the loss, UNLV is 8-5 overall.
Sophomore starting pitcher Jen Mineau (Schaghticoke, N.Y.) tallied her third shut out of the season and second of the weekend. Mineau, now 5-1 overall, recorded 13 strike outs against UNLV and allowed just four hits in seven innings of work.
Senior leftfielder Erin Fisher (Woodinville, Wash.) hit a home run to left field to score the Rams' first runs of the outing in the second inning.
In the third inning, junior Beckah Wiggins (Conklin, N.Y.) started off the inning with a single to the shortstop. Rookie Jamie LaBovick (Peoria, Ariz.), playing first base, homered to centerfield for 2 RBI. In the sixth inning, junior catcher Meghan Shager (Conklin, N.Y.) had a two-out single to right field and moved to scoring position on a wild pitch. Leadoff batter, junior Jocelyn Dearborn (New Milford, Pa.) sent in Shager for the insurance run with a single to right field on the next at bat, making the score 4-0, Rams. Sophomore Lindsey Kay Bright (Federal Way, Wash.) got the final out for the Rams with a bunt to third base.
Next up, the Rams will head to Clearwater, Fla., for the Under Armour Invitational on March 5-7.
