Denver, Colorado - Former Fordham pitcher Cory Riordan, who pitched for the Rams from 2005-07, was one of five players added to the Colorado Rockies 40-man roster last week, it was announced by the Major League Baseball club.

Riordan, who is now protected from being a part of this year's Rule 5 Draft, will now join the Rockies for their 2011 Spring Training Session to be held in Phoenix, Arizona.

Riordan has spent the past four seasons in the Colorado Rockies minor league system, moving up the system each year. He began his career with the Tri-City Dust Devils (Short Season Class A - 2007), followed by full seasons with the Asheville Tourists (Class A - 2008) and the Modesto Nuts (Class A Advanced - 2009), and most recently with the Texas Drillers (Class AA - 2010).

With Texas, Riordan started 24 of the 27 games he appeared in, posting an 8-5 record and a 4.01 earned run average. He recorded 135 strikeouts to just 38 walks in 161.2 innings of work.

Over his minor league career, Riordan has won 30 games to go with a 3.91 ERA, pitching 563.2 innings with 494 strikeouts to only 132 walks (3.7:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio)

Riordan was a 2007 sixth round draft choice of the Rockies, following his junior season at Fordham. At the time, he was coming off an excellent junior season, and was listed as the top prospect in the Atlantic 10 by Baseball America. He ended the season with a 7-4 record and a 3.95 ERA, and was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team, helping the Rams to their first Atlantic 10 Championship game since 1998.

A former Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American, Riordan struck out 100 batters in 2007 in 100.1 innings pitched, joining Hank Borowy (1939) and Dick Egan (1907) as the only Rams to reach 100 strikeouts in a single season.

In three seasons at Fordham, Riordan was 21-11 with a 4.02 ERA, 201 strikeouts in 246.0 innings pitched, and four shutouts. He is tied for fifth in career wins and is sixth in strikeouts, while being eighth in innings pitched at Rose Hill.
