The temperature outside the Rose Hill Gym at game time for the Fordham-Monmouth game was 34 degrees, but the shooting wasn't any warmer inside, as both Fordham and Monmouth shot 34% from the field.  However, a 13-rebound advantage for the game, as well as 15 offensive rebounds lifted Monmouth past Fordham, 55-44, on Saturday.
With the loss, Fordham moves to 6-5 overall, snapping a two-game win streak, while Monmouth improved to 7-2 on the year, extending their win streak to six.
Monmouth grabbed the early edge in the contest with the opening six points of the game, and led 15-8 on a jumper by Alysha Womack.  The Rams followed with seven straight points to tie the game at 15, as Abigail Corning hit a three-pointer, followed by lay-ups from Kyara Weekes and Becky Peters.
The Hawks responded by closing the half with a 10-0 run, highlighted by a three-pointer by Gabby Singer, taking a 25-15 lead into halftime.
Monmouth extended the lead to as many as 13 points in the second half at 39-26, before Fordham came back within one, 39-38, behind a 12-0 spurt.  Corning and Peters both hit three-pointers in that stretch with Peters also connected on four free throws attempts.
Fordham remained within a basket at 42-40 with 4:59 left, but Monmouth reeled off 13 of the final 17 points of the game, clinching an 11-point win over the Rams.
For Fordham, Peters scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while Corning added 10 points off the bench.  Tiffany Stokes chipped in six points and five rebounds with Weekes hauling in a team-high seven rebounds to go with five points.
The Fordham women's basketball team will next be in action on Saturday, December 18th, when the Rams host Manhattan College in the annual Battle of the Bronx, beginning at 7:00 PM.
Game Notes: Fordham falls to 4-7 all-time against Monmouth... The loss snapped a three-game win streak by Fordham over schools from New Jersey... This was Peters' third 20-point game of the season, tying her with Caitlin Shadbolt for the team lead.
